If you’ve got a specific question you want answered too, simply ask us below.
When you provide us with a job vacancy, we will work closely with you to understand the role and your workplace environment. We’ll conduct a thorough assessment to match the right candidate to your needs, considering both their skills and any support they may require. Additionally, we can provide guidance on workplace adjustments and help facilitate a smooth integration for your new employee. It’s all about job matching. Our end goal is long-term, sustainable employment.
That’s a difficult question to answer. There is a perception out there that every person on the Disability Employment Services caseload has a physical disability, that’s not always the case, with a large portion of our customers living with hidden disability. Here is a link to a guide on Hidden Disabilities and as you can see, there are thousands of hidden disabilities that many people in the community live with. The job seekers we work with have a wide range of disabilities, including but not limited to physical disabilities, sensory impairments (such as vision or hearing loss), intellectual disabilities, and mental health conditions. Each individual is unique, and we focus on understanding their specific needs, abilities and strengths to ensure a successful employment match.
It’s great that you want to be inclusive! When interviewing candidates with disabilities, focus on their skills and qualifications for the job rather than their disability. Be open to discussing any accommodations or adjustments they may need and avoid making assumptions. Asking about their needs in a respectful and straightforward manner can also help. If you’re unsure, BUSY Ability can provide guidance on best practices to ensure your interview process is inclusive and respectful, including resources on interview techniques and etiquette.
BUSY Ability will work with you every step of the way, starting with understanding your hiring needs and workplace requirements. We then match your job vacancy with suitable candidates. Understanding your vacancy and work environment allows us to job match with the ideal candidate. Once the employee is onboarded, we can assist with advice on funding for any workplace modifications that may be required, PPE equipment, uniform purchases and post placement support. This support can include spending time onsite with your employee, helping them settle in and learn the job role.
The need for specific modifications like mobility ramps or accessible bathrooms depends on the individual’s requirements and the nature of your workplace. BUSY Ability will work with you to assess any necessary adjustments and provide guidance on what might be required. If any adjustments are required, we can assist you and your employee by submitting an application through Job Access Workplace Modifications. We will ensure that any adjustments are practical and aligned with the needs of the person you’re hiring while also considering your workplace’s existing infrastructure.
We will then share your question anonymously online for other employers to learn from.
