People with non-visible disabilities want to be treated with respect and as individuals – just like people with visible disabilities and the general population. Even though you can’t see evidence of a disability, if you have employed a person from BUSY Ability through the Disability Employment Service, they will have a recognised disability.
Each hidden disability requires different forms of support. It’s important to never make assumptions about what support someone may need. The best approach is to listen to individuals with disabilities and respond to their specific needs.
Employees do not have to disclose that they have a disability, or explain what it is. Employees can choose not to disclose this information. Some employees may choose to wear a lanyard or carry a badge to show that they have a hidden disability, allowing co-workers to understand their situation.
