When the catastrophic bush fires hit Nowra earlier this year, Troy lost his car and most of his worldly goods. Desperate and traumatised, Troy migrated to the sunshine state, making his new home at a backpackers in Kangaroo Point, Queensland.
Not long after the fires, the Corona Virus pandemic left Troy feeling further defeated, yet still determined to get his life back on track.
Motivated to find work and an independent income, Troy registered with BUSY Ability at their East Brisbane office. Without fail, he proceeded to come into the BUSY Ability office at least every second day to search for work.
“I believe a higher power was with me the day I registered with BUSY Ability”, Troy stated.
On one of his days in the office at BUSY Ability, Troy was sitting with his consultant Jim who was helping him with a cover letter. He overhead another BUSY Ability team member talking about a new job opportunity for a cleaner at the Mater Hospital. Immediately Troy yelled out “I’ll do that!”
The BUSY Ability team put him forward for the role, completed the required police check and before Troy knew it, on the morning of the 24th March, he was on his way to the interview.
Troy got the job and has been working full time at Mater Hospital since the 26th March.
“While unemployment is soaring in many industries, there are still many opportunities in others, including the health care sector, manufacturing, service support and some sectors in retail, to name a few. Our team at BUSY Ability get a real buzz when we help someone to positively turn their life around. Supporting someone like Troy to find employment and financial independence again, that’s what motivates us every day”, CEO of BUSY Ability, Jason Shield stated.
When the BUSY Ability team last spoke with Troy he was in tears with joy. “At a time when everyone else’s life is turning upside down, mine is turning around. Thanks to BUSY Ability who worked quickly to find me a pathway where I can get back on my feet”.
