A recent course delivered under the Skilling Queenslanders for Work program has supported BUSY Ability clients to get ready for work.
The course provided a range of accredited training units that will assist BUSY Ability clients by preparing them for work. The training subjects included working effectively with others, providing service to customers, showing social and cultural sensitivity, and workplace health and safety.
One of the BUSY Ability participants, Tatiana Wilden said “Before I came here last Wednesday I had no confidence, I was scared to meet new people. I don’t know what I would have done without the support from these ladies, they helped build my confidence and I am so proud of myself”
Lachlan Passfield, another participant said “The course has been great and the trainers gave 120% to support us. I’m looking for an apprenticeship in bricklaying and the course prepared me by helping me to manage my communication, sharpened up my resume and gave me some valuable workplace skills”.
Kurtis Buckle said “When I first came to the course I was shy, I nearly walked out. Usually that’s what I would do but the trainers really supported me to relax and stay. I needed a bit of motivation and drive, this course gave me some perspective of what’s out there. I have a passion for cars so I’m hoping to find work in the automotive industry”.
Tatiana (L), Lachlan (Centre) and Kurtis have all benefited from the Skilling Queenslanders for Work course that BUSY Ability delivered to help them get work ready. Lachlan has since found employment.
Two of the course participants have recently found work, with Lachlan undertaking a business administration traineeship and another finding work in retail. The remaining participants are being marketed to local employers with the aim of 100% finding employment in the coming weeks.
Jason Shield, CEO of BUSY Ability said, “Many of our job seeker clients have confidence issues, they may not have worked before or they may have been out of the workforce for a long time. The course aims to help participants get work ready, learning cooperation and communication skills along with building their confidence as they learn what to expect in a work place”.
