When Lyndan voluntarily came to BUSY Ability for assistance last year, he was determined to do everything he could to find work and was not going to let anything stand in his way. Up until that point, Lyndan (who is 22 years of age and has difficulties with fine motor skills) had never experienced sustainable employment, yet he knew if given the chance he would make a loyal and reliable employee. With a great attitude to start with, Lyndan was well on his way to achieving his goal, he just needed some support to get him over the line.

This is where BUSY Ability stepped in, working with Lyndan to improve his resume, coaching him with his interview skills and approaching local employers on his behalf. Excitedly, Lyndan was soon provided an opportunity to work with a commercial cleaning team for a local shopping centre. He was over the moon but he now knew he had to prove himself to the employer and that is where BUSY Ability’s assistance was invaluable.

For the first six weeks Lyndan’s employment consultant at BUSY Ability, Luke, worked beside him on the job to ensure he was fulfilling each task correctly. Luke liaised with the employer and provided any retraining or modifications for the job to ensure Lyndan was able to complete it. Luke also provided feedback on each work requirement, making sure Lyndan was fulfilling his employer’s expectations.

Lyndan is now confident and working independently, and his employer is happy with his work, valuing his reliability and the positivity he brings to the team.

“BUSY Ability has been great. They were very supportive of me and helped me find a new job being a cleaner in a shopping centre and came with me to my job for the first six weeks, until I was ready to work on my own and I’ve been working there ever since. BUSY Ability has made a very positive impact on my life, if you have a disability and are looking for work then BUSY Ability is the way to go”. Lyndan stated.

Jason Shield, CEO for BUSY Ability stated “While Lyndan came to BUSY Ability voluntarily and was not required to find work, the benefits that work can bring are enormous. Feeling valued and having financial independence can made the world of difference to a person’s confidence and overall well-being. The team at BUSY Ability are really happy that we could assist Lyndan in this way and we look forward to supporting his ongoing success”.
